Aaron Hoover joined the UF News Bureau in 1998 after spending seven years as a daily newspaper reporter in North Carolina and Florida. He began as an engineering writer but expanded the beat to include the physical and natural sciences in 2000.

In 2003, Hoover created the UF Op-Ed Service aimed at generating and editing UF faculty- and graduate-student authored opinion columns. As op-ed editor, he has placed columns in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald and other leading publications. In 2005, he was given an additional title as executive speechwriter, assisting UF President Bernie Machen and other top university administrators with speeches and presentations.
